產品介紹: RDC (Rail Diesel Car) Amtrak #35 台鐵光華號
歷史沿革:
In the period immediately following World War II, railroad passenger business entered a period of severe decline. With the average number of passengers per train falling in half from 1944 to 1948; and the average number of passengers per car down 40% over the same period, it was evident that something drastic needed to be done. Most railroads felt that they should be in the passenger business, but not in the expensive, underutilized, local/mixed business. Many railroads re-equipped their mainline passenger trains following the war but wanted to eliminate branch line and local service. If railroads were to stay in the local branch line and mixed train service they would have to do it with smaller, more economical trains. The gas electric had fulfilled this service prior to the war, eliminating the conventional steam powered train with it’s larger operating crew. Increased competition from automobiles, buses and airplanes was rapidly eroding railroads’ profits. With its fifteen years of experience in the construction of stainless steel passenger cars to go on, the Budd Company introduced the first RDC (Rail Diesel Car) in 1949. It was a self-propelled stainless steel passenger coach equipped with hydraulic torque converter transmissions, powered by two diesel engines. Because of its box-girder, shot welded stainless steel construction, in which the whole car became one strong box girder, the Budd RDC weighed about the same loaded with fuel, water and sand as an empty lightweight passenger coach built by other car builders. The car was designed for use in branch line, commuter, suburban, and supplementary main line service. Life Like is proud to announce the Budd RDC-2 as the latest addition to the PROTO 1000 line. This one-car train comes with a heavy die cast frame, four wheel drive and eight wheel electrical pick up. Its five pole skew-wound armature motor drives the RDC-2 at scale speeds around eighteen inch radius curves with ease. Featuring a detailed interior, body mounted PROTO 2000 magnetic couplers, and laser-sharp printing, the RDC-2 is ready to give passenger revenues on model railroads across the country a significant boost. |
